After leaving England I grew up in Fair Haven, CT in the 60s. It was a great place and time to live. However, in those days I wanted to live a glamorous, rock star life in California. After eventually getting what I wanted (in terms of geography - not glamor) I look back very fondly at my life in Fair Haven. This song is just another way of saying “you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone”. Or as my father so succinctly put it “never bloody satisfied”.
