Kind of an odd song. Many years ago my band was setting up in the afternoon to play that evening. There was an old, rather drunk gentleman sitting at the bar who told me a long story about his great, great grandfather - a guy who’d fought in the Mexican-American War as a young man, and fallen in love during his time in Mexico. He never got over the girl and always wondered if they were soulmates meant to be together. (I‘m editing significantly. This was a long story). The old gentleman told me that since he was the last of his family, no-one would ever hear his great, great grandfather’s story.

So, the joke’s on him.
